Ernst, Morton, and Glass is a series of short stories and novellas about a team of manesologists, ghost experts who adventure through a fantastical version of Victorian England where ghosts and hauntings are a fact of every-day life. I’ve put a lot of research into this project, and while the three men that compose Ernst, Morton and Glass are fictional, many of the people they interact with are from real life, such as the famous lawman Bass Reeves, occultist Samuel Mathers, and social reformer Josephine Butler.

I hope you will have as much fun reading these stories as I had writing them. Some are dramatic, some are comedic, but all carry the spirit of phantasmal thrills in the tradition of Algernon Blackwood and William Hope Hodgson.

A Voracious Mirror

Ernst, Morton, and Glass must rescue a girl’s reflection from a being that should not exist–Bloody Mary, the infamous ghost of mirrors. They must work fast, for the girl is quickly expiring without her reflection. But how can their olprt radiance work against a ghost who hides in reflective mirrors?

A Woman of Reputation

A woman is chased through the streets of Blackwall by a knife-wielding phantom again, and again, and again. Can Ernst, Morton, and Glass break whatever strange hold the phantom has over this woman?

A Duckling in Kensington Gardens

Written for the 3rd Royal Road Forums Flash Fiction Contest. Ernst, Morton, and Glass find a little happiness within the dreary ruins of London.

Til Death Do We Part

In this comedic tale, Ernst, Morton, and Glass have to deal with marital dispute from beyond the grave. Is love truly all-enduring?

The Red Ghost

Based on a very strange real-life story. Ernst, Morton, and Glass head to America and work with the legendary lawman Bass Reeves to hunt down the strangest four-legged ghost in the annals of history–before it kills again!

All The World

Every night at midnight, the Gnome Theater is filled with the mysterious ghosts of Shakespearean actors trapped in a never ending performance. Ernst, Morton and Glass work with the theater’s skittish manager to uncover the reason why.
