Dillon (Dillon’s Rolling Western) vs Tethu (Ever Oasis)

We’re not out of the wild west yet. Now if you own a nintendo 3ds or played the last two smash bros games, you might recognise at least one of these characters. Maybe you saw Dillion appear as an assist trophy in smash 4 or ultimate, or maybe you saw Ever Oasis on the shelf of your game shop. This match sort of just spreads the word of these characters and their great games

Connections

Both are obscured nintendo characters who debuted in the nintendo 3ds

Both are desert dwellers

Both befriend someone who are in a similar situation, those friends being Russ and Esna

Both character are the last of their kind, for Dillon it’s the Armedo and for Tethu is the children of the great tree

Their kind specifically helps their world fight against an ever present force, for the armedo it’s the grocks and the children of the great tree its chaos

For contrast, Dillon’s dead heat breakers (the 3rd game) has a very industrial aesthetic while in Ever Oasis, everything is made of plant matter.

Animation Potential

Now let’s address the elephant in the room. Both of these character’s fighting styles are so radically different. Tethu mainly uses conventional weapons such as sword, bolas, crossbows and wands, while Dillon just keeps rolling and attacking with his claws. But this fight can work in the hands of someone competent (Like your’s truly) and both of these characters have a lot more abilities then you might initially expect.

Set-up

I got nothing, it’s hard to think of a set up for a fight between these that makes sense for the characters. But I do think that the fight should take place in a desert, though you may think it’s a boring setting, just play Ever Oasis you’ll see how colorful and lively a desert can look.

Actual animation

The fight dynamic should be both characters gradually learning what the other can do and pulling out a new trick the moment the opponent starts getting an understanding of their abilities. For example, when Tethu starts getting the hang of Dillon’s roll attacks, Dillon uses his wonder bomb. Dillon uses his spinning tornado move thing, then Tethu summons a tornado spinning opposite to Dillon to stun him before wailing on Dillon with melee attacks. Tethu keeps spamming ranged attacks only for Dillon to attack through underground.

Banter

There isn’t much you can do with banter since both Dillon and Tethu are silent protagonists.

Music

I think that this fight should take most of its cues from Ever Oasis for the music.

Implementing a feeling vastness

But I think it should include a lot the spaghetti western elements from Dillon’s first two games

Track name: N/A

Who Would Win

It’s kind of difficult to tell since I don’t have the stats on Tethu but if I had to guess, I think Tethu should win because of war of attrition. Yeah Dillon can heal, but so can Tethu, but not only can Tethu heal, he can revive himself, more then once if I remember correctly. Dillon being invincible during arma-mode could give Tethu some issues but that only lasts a short amount of time. I could be wrong though. Dillon could be way too durable for Tethu hurt but I right now I’m betting Tethu.

Conclusion

I just wanted to use this mu as a way to talk about Ever Oasis and the Dillon games, go play em while the nintendo eshop is still around.

Otto’s Comments

Well, I don’t got much to say about this one. I got some games to try out, that’s for sure, now I just need to find the time. I’ve got to make time. I can’t possibly live off Multiversus and Dead by Daylight.

Can I?

I only knew of Dillon from being a Trophy in Smash and I had no idea who Tethu is until this matchup. Tethu winning through revive and healing spam sound viable, but I can only go off what I’ve heard, I’ve played neither’s games.

But uh, about the eshop. Yeah, it sucks how corporate overlords can just remove IPs from the public eye and sit on them like slum lords over decaying housing districts. Too bad you can’t like, download an emulator and a couple of roms. That doesn’t exist. And even if it did, you shouldn’t do it because you’ll have to go to Internet jail if you do. And then when you die, you’ll go to Internet Hell.

If Miyamoto doesn’t get your microtransactions, well, he’ll just have to cry himself to sleep at night, and you wouldn’t want that, would you, you monster?
