The Mean Guy Wins, Right?

 

The idea that “The most unlikeable/mean/evil character always wins” has been doing the rounds in the who-would-win sphere recently and I just want to chime in and nip it in the bud before it can become a persistent meme.

 

I’ve done the numbers. It doesn’t check out. When it comes to heel vs face matches, the face typically wins.

 

Now in setting up this list, I’ve tried to be as strict as possible. Would Batman vs Captain America count for a heel victory since Cap is a paragon superhero and Batman likes to flirt with being edgy? Would Booster vs Cable count for a face victory since Booster is a funloving, greedy goofball and Cable is Terminator man? I don’t answer those questions. I’ve only looked at matches where the heel/face division can be comfortably applied.

A heroine known for exterminating highly dangerous species of space jellyfish and spacebug kills the guy that put Han Solo in carbonite. 1-0

 

Yoshi kills Riptor

 

Sophont cartoon dino kills a genetic bioweapon. 2-0

 

Spawn kills Kratos

 

Edgelord that loves his wife (WANDAAAAAA) kills edgelord that happily kills random civilians to solve puzzles. 3-0

 

Rainbow Dash kills Starscream

 

Cartoon horse kills planet conquering space robot. 4-0

 

Thor kills Rayden

 

Thunder god kills team-killer blunder god. 5-0

 

Superman kills Goku

 

Jimmy Olsen’s pal kills WAKU WAKU LET ME FED CELL A SENZU BEAN. 6-0

 

Godzilla kills Gamera

While they’ve both been faces/heels/tweeners, Godzilla is by far the Undertaker/Stone Cold Steve Austin to Gamera’s Hulk Hogan. 6-1

 

Scorpion kills Ryu

 

Spawn-short-a-few-chains kills hard working karate man. 6-2

 

Deadpool kills Deathstroke

 

Deadpool is capable of moral actions (sometimes). Deathstroke slept with jail bait to better position himself to assassinate a team of teenage superheroes. 7-2

 

Kirby kills Majin Buu

 

This one was a little hard to call because Mr. Buu was involved and he’s pretty sweet, all things considered. But the fight’s focus on the more evil parts of Buu means Kirby is firmly the face here. 8-2

 

Toph kills Gaara

 

Yeah, she shouldn’t have won, but she did anyway, and a plucky tomboy is way more face than the edgy sand kid that crippled Rock Lee. 9-2

 

Guts kills Nightmare

 

It’s really hard not to be the face against a soul sucking mass of eyeballs and cancer cells. 10-2

 

Iron Man kills Lex

 

Literally a superhero vs supervillain situation. 11-2

 

Goku vs Superman II

 

Second verse, same as the first. 12-2

 

Ganon kills Bowser

 

Bowser is cartoon-evil, Ganon is evil-evil. 12-3

 

Doomsday kills Hulk

 

The reverse of Iron Man vs Lex. 12-4

 

Venom kills Bane

 

While normally thought of as a villain, Eddie does have strong showings as an anti-hero. Bane does not. 13-4

 

18 kills Carol

 

Housewife drawn like the correct choice in Dragon Quest V kills Captain Morgan. 14-4

 

Zero kills Metal Sonic

 

Good reploid retires the bad reploid. 15-4

 

TJ Combo kills Balrog

The boxer that stopped cheating and turned his life around at great cost to himself kills the boxer that never stopped cheating. 16-4

 

Samurai Jack kills Afro Samurai

 

Afro isn’t a good person. At all. Jack is. 17-4

Traumatized science experiment kills serial killer. 18-4

 

Aquaman kills Namor

 

Friendly Super Friends/OUTRAGEOUS guy kills I MUST DROWN NEW YORK AGAIN. 19-4

One visits children in cancer wards regularly, the other visits happy hour regularly. 21-4

Dedede has way more situations where he’s on the side of the good guys than Wario. 22-4

 

Ghost Rider kills Lobo

 

It’s hard not to be the face against a guy with several genocides under his belt. 23-4

 

Tatsumaki kills Mob

 

Yeah. She’s ostensibly a superheroine. She’s still the heel when she has to throw hands with a middle schooler. 23-5

 

Black Canary vs Sindel

 

It’s really only the stupid retcons that made this one a superheroine vs supervillainess fight. 24-5

 

Esdeath kills Gray

 

Some salaryman’s Ilsa She-Wolf SS fetish kills a generic shonen secondary. 24-6

 

Machamp kills Goro

 

A pokemon kills the Bolo Yeung of a dimensional warlord. 25-6

 

Talbain kills Sabrewulf 

 

You wouldn’t think it by how the fight played out, but Talbain is typically the werewolf that won’t eat you while Sabrewulf is. 26-6

 

Broly kills Hulk

 

A few years ago and this would be the other way around, but DBS Broly is an innocent dude with an abusive father while Devil Hulk is nuclear Greta Thunberg. 27-6

 

Shadow kills Ryuko

 

Shadow once held the planet hostage with a laser because he thought his gf told him to take revenge on humanity. Ryuko isn’t even edgy. Like at all. I got no idea how that meme started. 27-7

 

Dio kills Alucard

 

A guy that was always a bloodsucking villain kills a guy that, at the very least, has human feelings for those close to him. 27-8

 

Storm kills Korra

 

A woman with a sense of responsibility kills a girl with no sense of responsibility. 28-8
