Hey Otto Where’s the Rest of the–

I’m doing something a little different. I’m announcing the fight, laying out the theme and rules, and then I’ll make a post for Alan’s feats and history and a post for Jim’s. And then finally I’ll post the fight results. I think that would make it more entertaining than dumping it all in one post.

And besides, you have no idea how many comics I had to skim through for these two. I’m going to milk his matchup for all its worth.

So, What’s The Theme Here?

Superheroes from the dawn of their respective companies and fictional settings who were eclipsed by their silver age counterparts. A technological marvel vs a modern-day Aladdin with a magic ring.

Both wield flames which act very, very differently from conventional flames.

And yes, Alan Scott’s power is described both as a light and as a flame.

He uses magic fire-light. And if you think his fire is weird wait until you see how Jim’s fire behaves. It’s probably even stranger than Alan’s fire given that its, ostensibly, normal fire.

So, How Does This Work?

We use nothing beyond the golden age, meaning nothing before Barry Allen became the Flash in 1956. That means no punking the Sentry for Jim and no “I am made out of chaos magic imprisoned by the Guardians of the Universe in the starheart aeons ago” for Alan.

The golden boys only get golden age feats. No Hal scaling for Alan, no Johnny scaling for Jim. No radioactive flames for Jim, no green flames for Alan. To repeat, nothing, and I mean nothing, past 1956. Even the retroactive continuity of books like Invaders, All-Star Squadron, and Infinity Inc is getting thrown out. We’re doing this like we’re big nerds in the 50’s.
