The Ray, who will be appearing in issue 2 of The Power of Stardust.

pdsh.fandom.com/wiki/Ray

Some characters in The Power of Stardust haven’t changed much from their original incarnations–the Marvels, for instance. Some have though (like the Black Terror who is now an entire army and Tabu who is based on the Nigerian Zangbeto).

Our version of the Ray is very different.

When scientist Ray Terrill encounters a photon anomaly high in the thermosphere, only the anomaly survives the encounter. Torn between memories of a dead man and a future of possibilities, the anomaly is adopted by the crew of the Ivan Sanderson thermosphere observation station named after en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_T._Sanderson

The anomaly adopts the name Roger after Roger Bacon and helps Sanderson base research the naturally occurring aerofauna of the thermosphere which are normally out of sync with the visible spectrum until Roger brings them into it. He’s pictured with an example of aerofauna–or rather part of it brought into visibility by his light.

Roger is something of a shepherd for the aerofauna around Sanderson base and even keeps a few as pets.
